Winter weddings can be a delight with careful planning

Planning a winter wedding with fresh flowers from overseas can be achieved say local flower shop owners.

Jennifer Hughes, owner of The Flower Cart in Britt, said most flowers are usually readily available. Most of her flowers came from a company in Iowa. Special orders aren't usually a problem.

Orchids need a big leeway as far as ordering. Also more difficult to come by in winter are different colored roses. “We've had special requests this year for blue roses," Hughes said.

The majority of winter wedding flowers come from Columbia and other parts of Central and South America. There are very few places in the United States which raise roses during the winter season.

So far she hasn't run into a case where she couldn't meet her custormer's needs but says, “if I absolutely can't get real flowers might have to go with silk. Many of our silks look so real people can't tell the difference."

Read next week's Tribune bridal section for more on planning the perfect winter wedding and great ideas for weddings any time.
