Close call for drivers
Two motorists escaped serious injury last week when their vehicles collided at the intersection of Hwy. 18 and N. Main Avenue last week.
The accident happened at 3 p.m. Thursday afternoon when a 1998 Oldsmobile Bravada driven by Robyn Vanwyk of Manly was traveling east on Hwy. 18 and attempted to turn left. Vanwyk (no age given) allegedly did not see a 2004 Dodge Dakota truck driven by George White (no age given) of Indianola. According to a Britt police report, White was traveling west in the right side of the north lane and two other vehicles were also traveling west in the right hand turning lane. White's truck struck the Bravada, causing the SUV to spin and roll onto its side. Britt police Chief Dan Nelson said both parties were wearing seat belts. “That accident alone is a warning to wear seat belts,” Nelson said. “If it weren't for their seat belts they would have been killed or very seriously injured.” Also responding to the accident were the Britt Fire Department, Hancock County Sheriff's Office, State Patrol and West Hancock Ambulance Service.
