FOREST CITY - Waldorf College Theatre Professor Jeremy Fiebig had a very busy summer as he traveled to Michigan to perform with a theatre company known as Pigeon Creek Shakespeare.
Fiebig decided to invite the company to perform in Forest City, and the company, including Fiebig has performed “Richard the Third” and “As You Like It” this past weekend.
“It was really challenging to be away from my wife Nan, and our daughter Elliot,” said Fiebig upon his return to Iowa. ”But I am very excited to be bringing back these two plays, especially for these incoming students at Waldorf.”
“I get to play a great role,” said Fiebig. “I get to play England's most famous villain; Richard the lll. It is one of the biggest dramatic roles in Shakespeare. He is a man that will do anything to get to keep the kingdom.”
“As You Like It,” a comedy about a young lady that gets kicked out of her uncles kingdom, provided a night of levity as the company put on the play at Pilot Knob State Park's amphiatheatre.
Fiebig has brought a lot of changes to the theatre group at Waldorf. “We were able to get a lot of things started and now we are able to see its fruition,” said Fiebig. “We have renovated Smith Theatre by painting, carpeting and installing new sound and lighting systems.”
Redesigning the theatre major was another change that has been in the works since Fiebig arrived at Waldorf last summer.
“Students can now specialize in performance design and technology or play write,” said Fiebig. “We also have a Shakespeare minor, which is a smaller course of study that allows students to focus on Shakespeare.”
One upcoming activity for the theatre students that Fiebig is looking forward to is a trip to London in May or early June. Theatre students will visit the Globe Playhouse, an outside playhouse, museums, theatres, take a tour of Oxford University and visit Shakespeare's birthplace - Statford-upon-Avon.
When Fiebig is not busy instructing or performing for the Pigeon Creek Company, he puts his focus on his family life.
“And it's really, trust me, nice to be home,” he said.
