Waldorf alum to kick off 2008 Artist Series

Opera singer to perform at Immanuel Sept. 21

FOREST CITY - The Waldorf Community Artist Series will kick off with a former Waldorf student who now is a professional opera singer.

Series officials announced their schedule last week for the 2008-09 season, which will begin on Sunday, Sept. 21, with a performance given by 1996 Waldorf graduate Andrew Oakden.

Series officials are billing the 2008-09 season as one that will appeal to a wide spectrum of musical tastes.

All series performances will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City and will begin at 7:30 p.m.

The series will also include performances by Spanish Brass on Oct. 6, The Proteus Ensemble on Nov. 6, The Des Moines Metro Opera's “Barber of Seville” on Feb. 9, The River City Barbershop Chorus on March 29 and pianist Joel Fan on April 23.

Series sponsors include Dr. Laila Bollinger Dimensional Group, First Citizen's Financial Corporation, Forest City Chamber of Commerce, Iowa Arts Council, Manufacturers Bank & Trust, KIOW Radio, Titonka Savings Bank, and WCTA.

Series ticket prices are $70 per family, $30 for singles, $25 for senior citizens, and $10 for students thru high school.

Series tickets may be purchased by emailing fredrickc@waldorf.edu or calling 1-800-292-1903.

Series tickets may be picked up at the first performance on September 21, or they will be mailed to you.

Tickets may also be purchased at the door for individual performances, $10 for adults and $5 for students.

Waldorf Community Artist Series members also have the opportunity to attend Kossuth County and Clear Lake Concert Association events for free with the presentation of their WCAS ticket. These events are organized by Allied Concert Services.

The Clear Lake Concert Association events are held at the E.B. Stillman Auditorium in the Middle School at 7 p.m. and will include performances by the Russian folk dance troupe Barynya on Oct. 3, storyteller Neal Hagberg on Oct. 17, Fascinating Gershwin on March 9 and the Synergy Brass Quintet on April 21.

The Kossuth County Concert Association will be hosting all events, except for the second, in Algona at the O.B. Laing Middle School Auditorium at 7:30 p.m.

Kossuth County shows include the April Verch Band on Sept. 15, “Trumpet Invation” on Oct. 28, Fascinating Gershwin on Feb. 26 and Romanza on April 14.
