Chili cook-off contestants sought

Fourth annual chili cook-off is October 24

Attention all you chili chefs, the Britt Chamber of Commerce is gearing up for the annual Britt Chili Cook-off.

The event is scheduled for Friday, October 24 from 5-7 p.m. at the West Hancock Elementary School gym.

The cook-off will be held before the home football game against Ft. Dodge St. Edmond.

Like previous contests, the cook-off will feature three categories for contestants: mild, spicy and most unique chili.

“We have such great participation for this,” said one of the event's organizers, Christie Hobscheidt.

Hobscheidt said awards will go to the first three places in each category. There will also be prizes for table decorating.

Previous entries in the contest have included hot African chili, white chili, green chili and even one called “Big Brad's Roadkill” chili.

Whether you like your chili mild or fever-burning hot, there's sure to be something for every palate.

Those brave enough to sample the chili will do the judging.

Everyone who buys a bowl will get a ballot. It will be a favorite or popular vote that decides the winners.

Anyone interested in signing up for the cook-off can register at The Cobbler Shoppe, Pritchard's Auto or the Britt News-Tribune.

The cost will be $5 for bowls for adults and $2.50 for bowls for children.

“We hope people come out with their friends and family and support the event and then head to the game,” Hobscheidt said.
